Meet Lanien Livingston, public information officer for the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) Mayor’s Office. Hailing from Fairbanks, this homegrown talent continues to serve her community by maintaining communications to and from the seat of local government. PRSA resources help her succeed in this challenging job.
“Under the direction of the Mayor or Chief of Staff, I am responsible for the public face of the borough. I oversee the official web pages and social media accounts. I also create content for many departments, including messaging and graphics,” said Lanien. “During the pandemic, I have most recently served as the FNSB’s joint information system (JIS) public information officer (PIO). I have learned to wear a lot of different hats here, as I am a communications department of one.”

How does membership in PRSA assist you?
“I have been a PRSA member since 2006. I have enjoyed the many learning opportunities that membership has to offer. There are so many resources available, and current information on a wide variety of topics that have helped my professional development,” she said.
In 2018 she was a judge for a sister PRSA chapter’s annual awards program. “This was a great experience as it allowed me to see in fine detail the great work that other members have done,” she notes. “The scoring task also allowed me to score the project or campaign and compare them to a professionally designed set of metrics for excellence. It was a great experience that I would love to do again!”
