How does membership in PRSA assisted you?

The generosity and mentorship from PRSA-affiliated colleagues were key to establishing my career in public relations. I didn’t formally study PR in college and was dependent on members to learn everything from best practices in media pitching; the importance of AP-Style; developing and tracking metrics; and more. In my first years, I felt quickly overwhelmed, charged with establishing and running a national press room. PRSA members rallied for me in a way that I didn’t even realize at the time. They taught me that leadership can be subtle, empowering me with confidence while also guiding and supporting me throughout the process. I’ve learned that PRSA members are always available to support each other — even if it’s a cold call asking for help.

Thoughts on PRSA Alaska Volunteering

I’ve volunteered for more than 15 years, my first position co-chairing the chapter’s first diversity committee. During this year as chapter president, I’ve been honored to work side-by-side with our board of directors to foster diversity and inclusion among our membership.
