Letter from the President: Diversity Month

August is PRSA diversity month, and diversity is the focus of this month’s professional development luncheons in Anchorage and Fairbanks.

The Alaska Chapter has an active diversity committee currently chaired by Angela Gonzalez. The committee members are working to make diversity and inclusion a focus area for our chapter. Some of their efforts include member spotlights in our newsletter and social media channels, and incorporating diversity and inclusion into monthly programming.

In September, Ana Toro, MA, APR, Fellow PRSA and chair of the PRSA National Diversity & Inclusion Committee, will be one of our featured speakers at CommEx. Ana has over 20 years of experience in the public relations field and is an expert in conducting national educational efforts to underserved, hard to reach and low income populations. I am thrilled Ana is coming to share her insights with us and to hear about her efforts on the national board.

Also this month, we are holding our very first member appreciation luncheon sponsored by Holland America Cruise Lines aboard the ms Amsterdam. We appreciate our members and hope to do more of these kinds of events in the future.
