Keeping our caregivers safe – How Providence Alaska communicated about the COVID-19 vaccine

As Providence Alaska anticipated FDA approval for emergency use of the first COVID-19 vaccine, the health care system knew providing accurate and timely information about the vaccine’s safety and efficacy from trusted sources would be critical as its caregivers decided whether to be inoculated. Hear about Providence’s award-winning internal communications campaign to address vaccine hesitancy. Speaker bios:

  • Kirsten Schultz is Chief Communication Officer for Providence Alaska. In this role, she leads the development of all communication programs and initiatives for Providence’s Alaska Region. Before joining Providence in 2008, Kirsten worked as a reporter and editor for newspapers in Washington and Alaska, including the Anchorage Daily News. She earned a master of business administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a bachelor’s in communication from Whitworth University. Kirsten serves on the board of trustees for Catholic Social Services and is past-president of PRSA’s Alaska Chapter.

  • Katie Marquette is Community Relations Manager for Providence Alaska. In this role, she manages the organization’s community sponsorship program and works with community stakeholders to promote shared priorities. Prior to joining Providence in 2019, Katie worked as communications director of the Alaska Department of Health & Social Services and as press secretary for the Office of Gov. Bill Walker. Katie earned a bachelor’s in sociology from the University of Alaska Anchorage and serves on the board of Boys & Girls Club Alaska.
