Balancing Business Goals and Engagement: The Power of Community Partnership

Explore CU1’s approach to blending business growth and authentic local engagement in Alaska communities.

By June of 2026, Credit Union 1 will have opened 4(!) new branches across the state in just under two years. But the efforts are more than just business expansion: they’re consistent with CU1’s business model of building strong community care relationships. So what are some strategies they’ve used, and will use, to balance business objectives with intentional, authentic community engagement?

CU1 Director of Corporate Affairs and Community Impact Jessica Gallagher and Community Outreach Manager John Guintu will share their approach based on recent branch openings in Wasilla, Kotzebue, and Skagway, and the upcoming Homer Branch opening in June. They’ll provide lessons learned and key relationship development strategies and principles for positive community engagement that PR professionals can apply to their own work.
